Basic Life Support (BLS) is a level of medical care used in emergency and life-threatening situations until the victim can be professionally treated by a team of EMTs, Paramedics or nurses in a hospital. It can help people who are choking, drowning or suffering from cardiac arrest, and can mean the difference between life and death for some people.

The Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) course according to the American Heart Association guidelines is designed to develop and improve the knowledge and skills of healthcare professionals regarding the management of cardiovascular emergencies in and out of hospital settings.

The bodies of infants and children respond differently than those of adults. In life-threatening situations, it is critical that healthcare professionals understand best practices for treating pediatric patients. There are a number of career paths in which it is highly beneficial to have Pediatric advanced life support (PALS) certification: it, in fact, allows an individual to provide life-saving care to children and infants in cardiac emergencies.
